He is the Comforter

We all have hard days. Some days are harder than others. It is empowering to know that on those difficult days when we do not feel strong enough to carry our burdens—Jesus Christ wants to lift us. He taught, “come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Mathew 11:28). He wants to helps us in all areas of our lives to feel greater peace, joy and strength. As we turn to Christ for help, we can accomplish much more than we ever could on our own.

“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” (Philip. 4:13).

He is the Source of Peace

With all of the conflict in the world today, some might ask, “Where can I find peace?” Real and lasting peace is found through our hope in Jesus Christ. He taught, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled. Neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27)

There is a difference between world peace and personal peace. Personal peace comes though our trust in Jesus Christ. He promises that our hearts can be calm in the midst of the storms of life. The closer we come to Him the greater the peace.

The Detmers found strength in Christ to overcome obstacles and receive strength beyond their own.

“Believe it or not, I wasn’t the most gifted athlete. I wasn’t super fast and I didn’t have the strongest arm. I grew up around football because my Dad was a coach. So I knew the game and didn’t like to lose so I competed hard and worked hard. I believe it was this foundation that was the key to my success in football.

I have found the key to success in life is to have a foundation built on Christ. He doesn’t expect us to be the best or the most talented. He only asks us to believe in Him and follow his playbook for experiencing lasting joy. With Him as our coach, and a willingness to work hard, we’re guaranteed victory.” –Ty Detmer

“We nicknamed him ‘Turnover Ty’ after he threw seven interceptions in his first BYU football game as quarterback!” –Kim Detmer

“I was a Cougarette at BYU when I met Ty in his first season as quarterback. I thought he was cute but we had a nickname for him ‘Turn-over Ty” because of how many interceptions he threw. Each game we cheered, we hoped he could lead our school to victory.

Thankfully neither one of us gave up hope and here we are today married for 31 years. We’ve had to rely on our hope in Jesus Christ to carry us through many challenges we’ve faced together. We’ve learned to rely on Him to strengthen us through difficult times.” –Kim Detmer
